this is brighton offers a critical view of what's hot for the coming week: Nizlopi at Ocean Rooms, Reuben at Concorde2 and Martin Grech at Pressure Point.

Nizlopi, Ocean Rooms, Brighton, Wednesday June 8.

Half These Songs Are About You is a great name for an album from a songwriting duo. And Luke Concannon and John Parker are just as interested on record and performing live.

Combining performance and music, Luke is on vocals, guitar and percussion, while John takes care of double bass and human beatboxing.

Somehow this all combines to create a jazz-cum-hip hop-cum-funk-folk-pop-whatever souffle.

Starts 8pm, tickets cost £5, call 01273 699069
Reuben, Concorde 2, Madeira Drive, Brighton, Sunday June 5.

Nominated at last year's Kerrang Awards as Best British Newcomer, Reuben are supporting their new single A Kick In The Mouth with a UK tour, before playing at Download and Reading festivals this Summer.

Reuben are all attitude and let their song titles do the fighting. Their idea of a love song is Nobody Loves You. By the time they release their second album Very Fast Very Dangerous in August their Foo Fighters-esque riffs and smart suits should have put them in the big time.

Starts 6.30pm, tickets cost £6. Call 01273 673311.

Martin Grech, Pressure Point, Brighton, Sunday June 5.

When Lexus used Martin Grech's Open Heart Zoo single to soundtrack an ad in 2002, it gave Martin a leg up, but confused a large section of CD buyers who were expecting more of the same Radiohead meets Aqualung melancholy.

Grech's album turns out to have as much in common with Nine Inch Nails textured metal guitars as Jeff Buckley's delicate voice. Playing live Grech switches from rock frontman to fragile singer effortlessly.

Starts 8pm, tickets cost £6, call 01273 684501.
