It would be helpful for Brighton and Hove's visitors to have volunteer guides to meet them off the trains at local railway stations and off the coaches at Pool Valley.

These guides would have to be trained, as a fund of local knowledge would be necessary, but they would not need to be trained to the level of the "blue badge guides" - who are woefully non-existent in Brighton, anyway.

There are hundreds of visitors who come to the city and it could be much more welcoming than it is.

I have just returned from a world cruise and by far the most memorable and enjoyable ports of call were those where volunteers were waiting on the quay for us to disembark, when they would guide us or escort us to the nearest train/coach station.
