(Cert 15, 90mins): Paul Kaye, Mike Wilmot, Beatriz Batarda, Kate Magowan, Pete Tong. Directed by Mike Dowse.

The movie which opens the Festival Fringe's film season, documents the extraordinary true story of legendary DJ Frankie Wilde, who fights his way from a humble London background to the very top of the DJ ranks.

Frankie explodes on to the Ibiza clubbing scene during the era of acid house and techno.

Renowned for his flamboyant and often crazed DJ style, Wilde is able to drive crowds into a frenzy and lives a hedonistic lifestyle on the holiday island crammed with wild parties, fans and drugs.

Wilde's excesses gradually cause everything to go "Pete Tong". His addiction to cocaine spirals out of control and tragically, he loses his hearing.

Fans, his manager and even his wife and stepson melt away and Wilde is left unable to DJ and sinks into depression.

As he loses his hearing, the film soundtrack also fades a clever and moving effect.

We follow Wilde as he attempts to overcome adversity and regain the lifestyle he has lost by feeling the vibrations of the music through his flip flops.

Filming was shot at the legendary DC10. Unrivaled as the craziest place on the island, the background of strange, weird and wonderful people portrays the debauchery which is Ibiza.

Despite the serious undertone, Kaye delivers some hilarious slapstick and the film is delivered in a part mockumentary/part narrative style.

It is also a comedy which explores the relationship between fame and sanity. It also captures the highs and lows of the clubbing scene in Ibiza and the life of one incredible DJ.

An interest in dance music is likely to heavily influence enjoyment of this film.

Showing at the Duke of York's Picturehouse, Preston Circus, on May 1, 6.50pm (£5 members) and at cinemas across Sussex from May 27.
