Mark McGhee today revealed he is poised to sign a new contract with Albion, after working without a written agreement for the past five years as a manager.
McGhee is ready to put pen to paper on a two-year deal following talks this week with chairman Dick Knight.
"We've more or less got an agreement," he said. "We have just got to get it down in writing."
McGhee has been working without a written contract since joining the Seagulls in October 2003.
He operated the same way at Millwall, where he was manager for three years from September 2000.
The former Reading, Leicester and Wolves boss said: "It's not unusual for me. I didn't have a written contract the entire time I was at Millwall either.
"I worked with a guy I trusted (Theo Paphitis) and it's the same with Dick. When I left Millwall Theo paid me up."
McGhee's contract situation will be formalised this time as part of his desire to clarify the futures of his entire backroom staff, headed by assistant Bob Booker.
Albion have been given a further boost by the likely availability of Mark McCammon for tomorrow's Championship clash away to fellow strugglers Plymouth Argyle.
The big target man has been given the all-clear following medical tests. He resumed training yesterday and, providing he suffers no reaction, will lead the attack at Home Park.
McCammon felt unwell when he went off at half-time in last Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Stoke.
"We think the dizzynes he felt may have been caused by an inner ear infection," McGhee said. "He is feeling a lot better and he was fine in training."
Albion are waiting to find out whether Adam Virgo feels up to playing after his father's funeral yesterday.
Youngster Chris May is back on the bench as goalkeeping cover for Rami Shaaban following loan signing David Yelldell's return to Blackburn.
Plymouth manager Bobby Williamson has backed his side to cope without Steve Adams tomorrow as Argyle aim for a third straight home win to move above Albion on goal difference.
Adams, 24, has moved to Sheffield Wednesday for £50,000 after featuring in last Saturday's narrow defeat at Derby.
Williamson said: "We have a good squad with some quality players and I wouldn't have let Stevie go if I didn't believe the players left at the club are capable of getting the results to keep us in this division."
