We live in a consumer age when the customer should come first. If you went to a restaurant and ordered a meal and it failed to arrive, you would leave.

If the restaurant continued to treat its customers in such a poor way, the business would fold.

So why, when I phone Brighton and Hove City Council's recycling help line about the failed collections in Hangleton, am I ignored?

The last collection was on February 10. After five phone calls, a further collection was made on March 7.

Why are we subjected to such poor service? Simple, we are powerless.

Legislation dictates you must pay whatever the service demands.

And can we expect a refund? I doubt it.
