Scottish star Duncan Urquhart followed up his two stage wins and overall victory in the GS Stella two-day time trial with another win in the Crawley CC time trial at Rusper.

Urquhart (Viner Bikes) stormed round the 14.5-mile course in 33min.35sec and he was only 23 seconds outside the course record despite windy conditions.

Hastings rider Peter Tadros (In Gear) led the Sussex contingent, finishing second in 33min.58sec. Kent rider Tim Bayley (Arctic) placed third in 34min.19sec and Steven Emmerson (Epsom CC) was fourth in 34min.28sec.

Course record holder Steve Dennis (East Grinstead) treated the event as an early-season training spin and rode a bike with mudguards but he still managed to finish fifth (34min.34sec).

Crawley CC, led by promising 16-year-old Matt Green, won the team event. Green clocked 37min.15sec, Phil Blagden 37min.32sec and Arthur Waghorn 38min.25sec.

Riders will have to face Urquhart again in the Central Sussex CC 16-mile Ron Ewart Memorial event at Ashurst on Sunday (9am).

However, Urquhart is aiming to gain selection for Scotland in next year's Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and will soon have to switch his attention to competing in Premier Calendar races and other national events.

Central Sussex have assembled a quality field. Among those expected to challenge Urquhart are Peter Tadros, Dave Shepherd (Liphook Cycles), Tim Mardell (Etoile), Tim Stevens (34 Nomads) and Stewart Jardine (21st Century Airports).
