This frenetic and dynamic show displays the very best of physical theatre and the very worst of modern life.

The protagonist desperately attempts to survive a world of constant pressure, manic activity and fear, where everyone competes and no one communicates.

We move through a series of scenes and tableaux which illustrate different moments in the life of the over-stretched city worker.

The other four members of the Gecko cast become dozens of over-bearing cartoonish characters who push and pull him every which way as he tries to escape. Frantic fights with briefcases, a conveyor belt of coffee, a soulless nightclub and an evil internet cafe are but a handful of the settings.

Though the stress of the protagonist is evident throughout, there is plenty of humour in the often ridiculous action.

Ingenious use of a treadmill and a moving window of light give the impression the action stays still while the audience slides by in constant motion.

Gecko have perfected their dazzling ability to zoom, leap, crash and spin across the stage, up the walls and into each other in a manner which is dizzying yet seamless.

The Race is a whirl of masterfully chaotic movement, colour and music. Go see it to remind yourself that life is worth slowing down for.
