I must admit I am disappointed at the decision to remove one aerial fire appliance from Brighton and Hove but admit it is in line with the aerial cover in other counties.
There are three aerial ladder platforms in Surrey and two in West Sussex (Worthing and Horsham).
There is one each in Portsmouth and Southampton, both large cities and they are 16 miles apart.
The nearest to Brighton is at Worthing, ten miles away.
The nearest to North-East Sussex is at Tunbridge Wells.
Saving life is the priority of the fire service but the odds of two high rise rescues at the same time must be very small.
Many times, the aerial appliances are used as water towers to play jets on the fire from above.
They are useful to lift personnel to work on upper floors and roofs.
