(U, 87 mins): Starring the voices of Tom Kenny, Alec Baldwin and Scarlett Johansson. Directed by Stephen Hillenburg
The silver screen's latest hero comes in the unlikely shape of a crudely-animated pantaloon-wearing parazoan.
The adventures of Spongebob Squarepants have proven to be a massive crowd-pleaser on the kids' channel Nickelodeon and, following in the footsteps of the Rugrats and The Wild Thornberrys, his movie debut is set to be another hit for the canny cartoon purveyors.
Revelling in its own peculiar sense of silliness, the plot sees the yellow sponge and his starfish buddy Patrick riding across the ocean floor in their motorised sandwich in an attempt to retrieve King Neptune's stolen crown.
Hammering home the message that's it's alright to be a kid and responsibility is not something to be taken lightly, the most impressive aspect of this slight but enjoyable fare is the star cameos from the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Alec Baldwin and a live-action David Hasselhoff.
