I raise my hat to maverick councillors Jack Hazelgrove and Kevin Allen, chairmen of both Brighton and Hove City Council's housing committees, for resigning after their preferred option for ownership of the council's housing stock, the Arms

Length Management Organisation (ALMO), was removed from the agenda.

Although ALMO would not be my choice, just the same I feel it should have been left on the table while council leader Ken Bodfish gives more time for wider consultation with tenants.

Councillor Mary Mears got it right (Letters, January 31) when she said the vast majority of tenants' representatives favour the setting up of a new community gateway association to own and manage housing stock.

Tenants have voiced their preference so why are they not being listened to?

Three years dithering is long enough and, without further ado, tenants paying rent on council housing estates should be given what they think is best for them.

And so Messrs Bodfish and Elgood come to the centre of the ring.

When council house tenants' views on a process which has been in the boiling-pot for three years are already widely known, Councillor Bodfish, there is no logical reason for giving more time for wider consultation.

And, Councillor Elgood, drop this hyperbole about events being politicised. Every event nowadays is, one way or another.

Now box on.
