Albion manager Mark McGhee today outlined his determination to turn Mark McCammon back into a "beast".

McCammon makes his first appearance as a permanent Seagull against Derby County at Withdean tomorrow.

The giant target man has signed a contract through to the end of next season after returning to Albion last week on loan from Millwall for the second time.

McGhee, who also signed McCammon for Millwall from Brentford, said: "I think it will have a good impact on him psychologically. He can commit himself not only to playing but getting himself right in the gym.

"In the longer term we are only going to see the best of him if we can keep him healthy and fit all through the summer and have a really good pre-season.

"I've seen him working in pre-season and he is a beast. At the moment he is nowhere near that. He can run around the way Virgs (Adam Virgo) chases around. He's got that sort of energy and strength."

McCammon, 26, said: "It's brilliant to be here permanently. I've got to know all the boys while I have been on loan.

"When I went back to Millwall I only played in one reserve game, so my fitness level is about 50 per cent of what I know it can be.

"I am just hoping to play now, get off the mark and then score more goals."

Albion, unbeaten for seven games in the Championship, suffered their joint-heaviest defeat of the campaign when they lost 3-0 at Derby in November.

McGhee also watched County see off Leeds 2-0 at Pride Park last week and he warned: "We are playing against probably the best team in the division at the moment. It's going to be a tremendously difficult game.

"They were as good against Leeds as they were against us, but for us to come away from Leeds last Saturday with our unbeaten run in tact was great. We fancy ourselves to at least be hard to beat against anyone at Withdean."

Alexis Nicolas makes his first start since Boxing Day in the centre of midfield in place of suspended skipper Charlie Oatway.

Dan Harding has been named again in Peter Taylor's England under 21 squad for next Tuesday's friendly against Holland at Pride Park.
