Mr van Tunzelmann and Ms Dyhouse are correct about the rubbish containers Councillor Mitchell claims are so popular (Letters, January 28).
When the so-called trial began, we were informed careful research had been carried out as to the number of bins and frequency of emptying that would be required.
However, some of the bins must have reproduced because there are often twice as many as originally proposed. Furthermore, the vehicles which empty them and the vans that clean up the associated litter are now in evidence seven days a week.
When the trial was discussed at the environment committee last week, councillors pressed Coun Mitchell to make sure full and meaningful consultation with residents takes place before any more of these useless and often unnecessary contraptions disfigure additional streets.
Residents who care about the environment will demand more than Cityclean's "research".
