When a man is in love, funny things tend to happen. Reason can go out the window and spurious logic liberally applied. Clever fellows become berks and smooth operators can go wobbly.

Laurence and Gus' lauded show Men In Love examines the hilarity and pathos created when men have caught the love bug. With sketches of love-struck bumbling to portrayals of the indignity of rejection, the show might help convince women that men aren't all heartless.

Laurence Howarth is best known for writing TV's Dead Ringers and appearing on Alistair McGowan's Big Impression, and comedy partner Gus Brown has made many appearances on The Harry Hill Show.

They met in Edinburgh during their university days - and so were no strangers to the place when they went on to win the inaugural 'Dubble Act Award' at the 2003 Festival with A History of the World in Five And A Half Sketches.

This was a festival favourite and they returned in 2004 to showcase Men in Love. Audiences lapped it up and Laurence and Gus left with sell-out shows and critical acclaim in their wake.

Not content with Men in Love's Edinburgh success and subsequent tour, they are now writing their own Radio 4 series, due for broadcast this spring, called Laurence And Gus: Untold Stories.

Men In Love's format uses several long sketches together with well-developed characters to build up the theme of the bumpy ride love has to offer. Bouncing off each other, neither Laurence or Gus plays the straight man. The sketches are just the right length, ensuring that the jokes aren't stretched too far and there is always something new around the corner.

The highs and lows of courtship are warmly dealt with, provoking sympathy as well as laughter.

In a charge through history the pair present the amorous difficulties of a range of unlikely Romeos - from medieval knights to Greek demi-gods, and infantrymen in First World War trenches, it seems that no-one - or at least, no man - is immune to romance's trials and tribulations.
