It seems Christmas is the time for goodwill to all people except from Councillor Geoffrey Theobald, that is (Letters, December 29).
Geoffrey Theobald should be aware there is no party whip (unless he wants to tell us something about the way his party's councillors vote) in the planning process so it is up to individual councillors to vote as they deem correct.
In the instance Coun Theobald refers to, I felt it was the right thing to do.
Others may disagree and that is their right but it is also my right to vote in the way I feel is in the best interests of the city.
Should I not vote as I believe right, Geoffrey?
If you break down the voting patterns of all councillors at that meeting, and indeed other planning meetings, you will find a large number of different voting combinations. I've even voted with Tory councillors when I thought it was the right thing to do - and that is the democratic process which Councillor Theobald seems unable to accept.
-Councillor Paul Elgood, Liberal Democrat, Brighton and Hove City Council
