In response to Tony Sturley's negative observations about policing in his neighbourhood (Letters, December 1), contrary to his opinion, I can assure residents of Telscombe Cliffs that officers do conduct foot patrols in the town.
High visibility patrols are conducted across the whole of Lewes District by police officers and police community support officers.
During October, 2004, 1,700 hours of foot and mobile patrols contributed to public reassurance across Lewes District.
Telscombe Cliffs is a low crime town and my team is working hard to ensure it remains a safe place to live. There has been a 50 per cent reduction in the number of dwelling burglaries in Telscombe Cliffs since April 1, 2004, compared to the same period in 2003, and the police station at Peacehaven re-opened to the public during the summer of 2003 to provide a more effective and local police service to the community.
My neighbourhood policing team continue to work closely in partnership with Telscombe Town Council and Lewes District Council to divert young persons away from crime and anti-social behaviour.
