I readily join the plaudits heaped on Mother Mary Garson (The Argus, December 14). I met her many years ago and admire her endeavours.
However, we must not forget others who have contributed to her work. I think particularly of Miss Irene Bloor, who was matron for many years of St Mary's House, Preston Park Avenue, Brighton.
A gentle, pious and devout Catholic lady who maintained her interest in the home and her church after her retirement until her death, well past the age of 90.
I was indebted to her in many ways in my work. Often, I asked Miss Bloor how she coped and she always replied: "I pray, and God gives me the answers."
Our community is enriched by people such as Mary Garson and Irene Bloor.
