Nick Nurse heaped praise on his Brighton Bears as they scored a crucial British League win in Glasgow last night.

Bears won 85-84 at fast-improving Scottish Rocks as the home club fumed over refereeing decisions.

Yorick Williams fired Bears ahead with a three-pointer 12 seconds from time, the last of his 25 second-half points.

There was still time for Rocks to stage one last onslaught but hotshot point guard Lamont McIntosh missed a 17-foot attempt to win the game on the buzzer.

Rocks slip to a 6-7 won-lost record while Bears stand at 9-2.

Nurse said: "This is a huge win for us. Rocks are a really good team, not many sides will come up here and win.

"They have got really athletic players and they killed us on the offensive boards early on but we adjusted to that.

"We mixed up our defences well but they still hit some big shots down the stretch."

Rocks owner Ian Reid made the astonishing move of going on the record, saying: "I am breaking my two-year vow of silence to say that, in my opinion, the referees had an undue influence on the course of the game."

Reid did not expand on his complaints. Bears return home today happy, though, after the guiding hand of Ryan Huntley, who had 12 assists, and strong work by Andrew Alleyne saw them through.

There was also a precious contribution from Radhi Knapp, the recently-signed Canadian forward, who hit 12 points in just his second professional outing.

Nurse said: "Radhi was huge for us but we had good games from a number of guys. It was one hell of a game."

Bears' day was tarnished by news that Duncan Ogilvie looks like missing the rest of the season. Ogilvie has been told he needs reconstruction surgery on his damaged knee.

Nurse said: "That hurts us. He was having a hell of a season. I'm going to have to find somebody to replace him but I don't want to rush into it."
