Truck drivers are split over the success of the M6 toll road, with most preferring to use the old route, a new report showed today.
A survey of 100 truckers showed that less than one in four regularly used the new road, which opened a year ago.
Fewer than half those questioned by recruitment agency Pertemps said their journey had been made easier.
Most of those using the toll toad, and about a third of those still driving on the M6, said the flow of traffic had been improved.
Only 55% said they would support toll roads in other parts of the country.
Kent Thompson of Pertemps said: "While there is a high level of satisfaction among toll road users, only about a third reported improved traffic flows and reduced journey times on the old M6.
"In other words if you are happy to spend the £22 it costs for a truck to make a return journey on the toll road then you do see benefit, but many road users who hoped the system would improve the running of the old motorway have been disappointed."
