Sussex are giving former Northamptonshire seamer Craig Jennings a six-week trial after Christmas.
The 20-year-old from Cannock made one Championship appearance for Northants last season when he took 3-64 against Worcestershire. He also played in three one-day games for the county.
A graduate of Northants' Academy, he was released at the end of the season.
Director of cricket Peter Moores said: "We've already had a look at him and there is something about him which we like, he's certainly got a bit of pace.
"We're giving him an extended trial in January but we will let him know either way by mid-February."
