A woman relived the nightmare of her son's death when three cars collided just 50 yards away from the scene of his crash.

Sheena Hogg's 13-year-old son Aaron was killed last month when two cars collided head-on at The Queensway, an accident blackspot in St Leonards.

She was in her living room yesterday morning when she heard a three-car collision outside.

Mrs Hogg, 37, said: "At first I thought the noise was coming from one of my son's computer games upstairs. But then I heard sirens and I thought: My God - not again'."

Yesterday's crash turned out to be a minor prang but it brought memories of Aaron's death flooding back to Mrs Hogg, who has campaigned for calming measures on the road.

She was sitting in her living room waiting for Aaron to be dropped off from Army Cadets by family friend Ken Thornett, 48, when she heard screeching brakes and a thud.

Mrs Hogg said she instinctively knew Aaron was involved and dashed to the scene to be confronted by a mass of twisted metal.

Hillcrest School pupil Aaron, of Whatlington Way, St Leonards, Mr Thornett, of Beckley Close, St Leonards, and Citroen driver Perry Carter, 31, from Tonbridge, Kent, all died at the scene.

Four others, including Mr Thornett's partner Angie Woollcott, 32, were injured. She remains in hospital.

The tragedy prompted Aaron's family to launch a campaign to introduce speed restrictions on the 60mph road.

East Sussex County Council announced in the wake of huge local pressure that safety measures would be introduced.

A speed reactive sign, red reflectors, road markings and reflective posts are to be installed in Queensway in January.

But Mrs Hogg said: "Something needs to happen now."

Police are investigating the possibility that a man who died when his car left the road may have suffered a heart attack.

The man, who in his 40s and is from Brighton, was driving north on the A23 at Pease Pottage just after midnight on Thursday.

His Mercedes saloon crashed down an embankment.

The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the car left the road for no apparent reason and inquiries were continuing to determine whether the man suffered an illness or heart trouble.

Three passengers in the car, a 24-year-old woman from Portslade, a 27-year-old man from Brighton and a 28-year-old woman from Brighton, suffered minor injuries.
