Yorick Williams is struggling to be fit for Brighton Bears' first knockout showdown of the season.

Bears face newly-promoted Plymouth Raiders in the quarter-finals of the BBL Cup at the Triangle on Saturday.

Nick Nurse's men will be favourites to go through to the last four of an event won by Sheffield Sharks last season.

Williams, though, could be struggling to play a significant part in the game.

He suffered a hand injury in last Saturday's defeat of Milton Keynes and has been to hospital this week to have the damage assessed.

The injury did not prevent Williams playing at Chester on Sunday and putting up 18 three-point shots. It might, however, have been a factor in him missing with 14 of those attempts.

Overall last weekend, he converted six of 27 three-point shots, though his season's strike rate is still an impressive 47 per cent.

Bears coach Nurse said: "Yorick has been to hospital to get it looked at. The pain keeps getting worse and we just hope he does not have a broken bone."

Meanwhile, former Bears MVP Rico Alderson is set to start a new adventure in Israel. Alderson, cut recently by London Towers, is joining Haifa after sources in Isreal were tipped off about his availability by The Argus.

His new colleagues will include American point guard Jermaine Boyette, who played against Bears for Prokom Trefl Sopot last season.
