I was interested to read your suggestion that "traffic lights should blend into their surroundings" (Comment, October 15).
In my experience, an increasing number of cyclists and motorists appear not to be able to see them already (particularly lights at red).
Recent design improvements have, in fact, ensured traffic lights are brighter, to improve visibility in the increasingly distracting and well-lit city environment.
There is less of a case for them to be "blendingly" obscure, more a need to be blindingly obvious.
