This post-punk hero's impressive career began with the Crucial Three, an appropriate name for a band which co-starred Julian Cope and Pete Wylie.
When they split to go off on equally successful tangents, Ian formed Echo and the Bunnymen, whose gloomy Doors-inspired psychedelia got them several hits and quite a following in the early Eighties.
They split for ten years, allegedly due to differences of eating habits (guitarist Will Sergeant liked fried eggs and Ian didn't) then got back together in 1997.
In the meantime, Ian spread his solo wings and liked it - so has continued releasing albums and performing gigs on his own as well as with the Bunnymen ever since.
The most recent release, Slideling, included collaboration with Chris Martin and was acclaimed as including some of the most confessional, personal songs of his career.
This gig is part of an intimate three-show tour which will see Ian perform two sets - the first with just a pianist and guitarist, and the second with a full band. Each set will mix solo and classic Bunnymen numbers with some well chosen covers.
Starts 7.30pm, Tickets £15, Tel 01273 736222
