Steven King has called on his Lewes players to show their mettle against mega-rich Hornchurch tomorrow.

The league leaders arrive at the Dripping Pan tomorrow with a squad costing a reported £30,000 a week. That figure dwarfs the sums King has to juggle with at Lewes.

However, just five places separate the sides in the league and the points difference could be cut to four should the Rooks pull off a shock against the title favourites tomorrow.

The Urchins' squad is packed with experience including former Tottenham midfielder Darren Caskey, who was a target for Albion just a couple of years ago, plus ex-Seagulls pair Paul McCarthy and Simon Wormull.

Almost every player has League experience including Wayne Purser, John Martin (Leyton Orient), Kirk Jackson, Simon Weatherstone (Yevoil), Adam Locke (Southend), Jean-Michel Segere (Rushden) and Jamie Stuart (Charlton).

Purser, a £15,000 buy from Orient in August, scored a hat-trick as Hornchurch crushed Dulwich Hamlet 9-0 in the FA Cup last Saturday.

King said: "To win 9-0 at any level of the game you have to be very special and apparently they had another couple of gears to go up.

"We will be doing our best but we will have to be playing to our maximum potential to get anything out of the game.

"Darren Caskey pulls the strings in midfield but they have quality all over the pitch.

"We are not expecting to beat them but if we crack the right notes you never know."

King appreciates the gulf between the sides in terms of budget but insists it should be a great game.

He said: "Two of their players would take up our entire budget but Newport drew with them, Bognor drew with them and Thurrock beat them."

Marc Cable has returned to Lewes from his loan at Burgess Hill.

Eastbourne Borough have signed former Middlesbrough reserve Anthony Storey on loan from Lewes ahead of their trip to Maidenhead United.
