Steve Lovell was left to rue missed chances after Hastings United tumbled out of the Cup with a 1-0 defeat at Spalding.

Manager Lovell said: "I am very disappointed. We had all the play, all the possession and created a number of chances. They had one shot and scored.

"We are playing well enough but not taking our chances. Hopefully we can bounce back against Burgess Hill on Tuesday."

Carl Rook had a goal disallowed and hit the crossbar while Steve Hafner was denied by two fabulous saves. Ian Dunn scored the only goal on 32 minutes.

Horsham manager John Maggs was critical of his side after a 5-0 drubbing at Histon.

Maggs said: "We weren't good enough. Up until half-time we were very much in it but the disappointing thing is after the second goal went in we seemed to accept it.

"If it hadn't been for Luke Burton saving a penalty and making two other good saves it could have been even more embarrassing.

"We were beaten well and we must learn from it."
