As secretary to the residents of a seafront block of flats, I have received a detailed letter from Karis regarding the proposed development of King Alfred. I feel development is the wrong word, surely it should be the "Rape of Hove"?

When I left the Army in 1947 after seven years' service and returned almost whole, I remember King Alfred had two or three artillery pieces to protect us from the invaders. They were removed but should have been left and aimed at Brighton and Hove City Council.

The scheme is an insult to the beautiful properties in this conservation area, which will be overshadowed by this monstrosity.

Six hundred car spaces opening on to two narrow roads, the loss of a valuable car park and parking spaces, including those for the disabled, the vicinity becoming even more crowded and visitors unable to reach the beach or park.

Somebody please give a little

consideration to those who live in this area.
