Simon Bradshaw, editor of The Argus, has resigned.
Mr Bradshaw, 45, joined The Argus six years ago from the Daily Record in Glasgow.
He began his career on the Coventry Evening Telegraph and has worked for a number of regional newspapers, including the Bradford Telegraph and Argus, the Edinburgh Evening News and the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, where he was deputy editor.
Under Mr Bradshaw's editorship, The Argus has won a number of awards.
It was named Evening Newspaper of the Year in last year's prestigious Regional Press Awards and became Team of the Year in the same awards for its coverage of the West Pier fire.
Other awards include the Daily Newspaper of the Year title in the 1999 BT Southern Home Counties Press and Broadcast Awards.
Martyn Willis, managing director of Newsquest (Sussex) Ltd, which publishes The Argus, said: "I would like to thank Simon for his hard work, dedication and professionalism during the six years he has held this position and would like to wish him every success in the future."
