In a previous attempt to change the planning at Brighton Marina, John Betjeman, the poet laureate at the time, wrote: "I would like to express my sympathy with the campaign of the Brighton Society against the Marina Company's plans for turning the shore at Kemp Town into an imitation of the Costa Brava. I cannot understand why those who defend this piece of developer's greed regard such an expansion of Brighton as inevitable...".

So, what has changed? Andrew Goodall says the Marina needs a landmark. Or is it Brunswick Developments wants more money?

Consent for a further 1600 flats is probably worth £75m. They may not get it all. The freeholders will want a share and that's Brighton and Hove City Council.
