It would be a great shame if the Red Arrows were to be axed in their 40th year by the Ministry of Defence trying to save money.

This wonderful flying display team forms a vital link between the ministry and the public yet some senior RAF figures would prefer to devote the resources to front-line combat squadrons.

Yet BAE Systems that build the Hawk jet used by the team have said the Red Arrows helped to bring in sales worth more than £10 billion over the past 30 years.

There will be public support for them at next month's Farnborough Air Show.

They have become an inspiration to any pilot and a tremendous thrill for the many thousands who watch their skilful flying techniques, both in this country and abroad.

They are truly outstanding ambassadors for Britain, they must be allowed to continue.
