Caraline Brown, the founder of public relations company Midnight Communications, has received one of the highest honours in the industry.
The entrepreneur, who lives in Dyke Road, Brighton, has been made a Fellow of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR) in recognition of her outstanding work in the field.
Midnight, based at Tower Point, North Road, Brighton, was founded in 1995.
It is now the region's largest public relations consultancy with a string of major clients including Fujifilm, Channel 4 and Notting Hill Carnival.
Ms Brown, a founder member of the Guild of Public Relations Practitioners, said she was taken aback by the honour.
She said: "It was completely unexpected but it says a lot about how we're developing a serious media and marketing industry in this region.
"When Midnight started we were almost alone as a public relations company in Brighton, now there are more and more talented, professional communications companies choosing the city."
