Norman Cook and Zoe Ball have joined a campaign to increase penalties for drivers who kill.

A nursery nurse who cared for the Hove couple's three-year-old son Woody was killed in a car driven by a man who was over the drink-drive limit and speeding.

Vicki Browne, 19, of Bentham Road, Brighton, died in the crash in Portland Road, Hove, last October, along with Natalie "Flo" McCabe, 21, of Ravensbourne Road, Shoreham.

Their friend Becky Fish, 20, of Mile Oak, was seriously injured and lost part of a leg.

Norman, aka DJ Fatboy Slim, met Flo's parents at the Argus Achievement Awards in May.

Her father, Ray McCabe, said: "Norman said he would be pleased to help in any way he could and asked us to forward a petition sheet to him."

Emma Coquet, Norman's personal assistant, said: "He is right behind the campaign and will be signing the petition."

Mr and Mrs McCabe have so far collected 15,000 names on the petition and plan to present it to Home Secretary David Blunkett when the total reaches 21,000.

Norman, 40, and Zoe, 33, were shocked and saddened by Vicki's death.

The couple wrote a tribute message at the time: "To lovely Vicki. We will never forget all your help with Woody. Shine on!".

Zoe said: "It's tragic, such a shame. We miss Vicki very much."

The three friends, all nursery nurses, had accepted a lift home in a Ford Mondeo which flipped over on to a parked car in Portland Road.

Witnesses said the car was travelling at 60 to 70mph.

The driver, Graham Travers, 21, a barman, of Shelldale Road, Portslade, was over the alcohol limit and had no insurance or licence. He was jailed for five-and-a-half years, a sentence attacked by the nurses' families as too lenient.
