My husband and I, aged 59 and 57, once again rode in the London-to-Brighton bike ride this year - my husband's 16th year and my 14th.

Southern not accommodating bikes on trains made it extremely difficult for us. We rode from Copthorne to Horley station on Saturday to catch a train via Clapham Junction to Wimbledon. We then rode our bikes from Wimbledon station to our daughter's home.

On Sunday morning we were up at 4.15am and left Wimbledon at 5am to ride to the start at Clapham Common. We then left on our bikes from Clapham Common at 6am and did the ride to Brighton. We arrived in Brighton at 12.45pm.

Of course we then had to get home so we set off again on our bikes and rode all the way back to Copthorne. On arrival in Copthorne we had actually ridden a total of 91 miles.

Quite an achievement I think for a couple of "wrinklies" and all because Southern could not provide trains for what is after all a charity event.
