Many thanks for highlighting the problems with Southern's new sliding door rolling stock (The Argus, June 24).

Every passenger would agree these trains are a 100 per cent improvement on the old slam door trains but there is a safety issue with these doors which I brought to the attention of Southern when this happened to my daughter in December 2003.

The reply I received was a fudge.

The door-shutting problem could be cured quite easily if conductors were more observant when people with prams or children were alighting and the driver used his mirrors.

Once again many thanks to The Argus for highlighting this problem and making rail travellers aware. Remember, mind the gap and the doors.
