A young girl raped by paedophile doctor Robert Wells has labelled him an "evil monster" who deserves to hang.

Wells, 52, formerly of Hangleton Road, Hove, repeatedly raped the 11-year-old after befriending her family and giving her sedatives.

Wells, a GP and police surgeon, was jailed for 15 years last week after a jury at Winchester Crown Court found him guilty of nine charges of rape, indecent assault and drugging young girls.

The girl, who is now 12 and cannot be named for legal reasons, said: "He should be put in the electric chair or hanged. He's a disgusting, evil monster.

"I first met him because my sister was going out with him. He seemed really nice at first.

"He was always buying me amazing presents like a karaoke machine, a PlayStation 2, a mobile phone and lots of clothes.

"When I used to stay with them he let me go to bed whenever I wanted. He'd give me strawberry cream with cherries mixed with sugar ground up with a pestle and mortar.

"That's how I think he slipped the drugs into my food. When I woke up I had a bad headache.

"He said I couldn't tell anyone or say anything about what he was doing because it would ruin my sister's relationship with him."

The traumatised girl eventually revealed what had happened after Wells was arrested in March last year, following sex abuse allegations by other victims.

She could not face telling her mother or her sister so she confided in her mother's partner.

He said: "She told me Wells had rubbed baby oil all over and had taken her clothes off. He used a camera to film himself doing it. Then she dropped the bombshell that he used to get on top of her and do what adults do. I was nearly sick."

Police called in to investigate the allegations discovered Wells kept large amounts of the sleeping pill temazepam in a biscuit barrel.

He met his victim's elder sister when they worked together in the West Midlands four years ago.

They began a relationship and when they both moved to Hove she would invite the 11-year-old to stay, unsuspectingly leaving them alone while she went out with friends.

She said: "My decision to date this man has destroyed my family. He played me and twisted me around his little finger.

"He even blew me a kiss from the witness box. He's beyond evil."

After he was sentenced, it was revealed Wells had been cleared of similar charges brought by Sussex Police nine years ago.

A loophole in vetting procedures meant Hampshire Police were unaware of the allegations when they took him on as a forensic medical examiner in 2001.
