Our reliance on cars contributes to climate change and apparently our growing obesity issues.
Now we're facing extortionate petrol prices and a new report suggests our driving habits are causing unhealthy pollution levels (The Argus, June 3).
But not all is doom and gloom. Here's a positive story about car-use: Monday, June 14 is national lift share day.
The idea is that instead of climbing into our cars and heading for work or the school gates as usual, we find a friend to share the journey.
The benefits are money saved on fuel, somebody to talk to, less traffic congestion and reduced pollution.
If you can't find a friend, you might find a passenger through the website www.liftshare.com. Or try calling 08700 111199.
Alternatively, hop on a bus.
