Edward Kennett is set to make a shock return to the Eastbourne Eagles team, less than a month after quitting the club.

The Sussex wonder kid will make his comeback in next Monday's televised Elite League match at home to Oxford.

Kennett, who won through to the world under-21 semi-finals in Germany in his only meeting since announcing he was leaving Eagles, said: "I've decided to give it one more go with Eastbourne in the Elite League."

Kennett, 17, had been expected to go back into Premier League racing, where he was one of the top riders last year with Rye House.

Newcastle, Workington and Newport all showed an interest in signing him, but Kennett said: "They are all a long way away, and I wasn't really interested."

He added: "I didn't feel I did badly for Eastbourne before, but there was a lot of pressure on me. Now I've had a break and got my engines sorted out, hopefully things will go better."

Eastbourne boss Jon Cook is delighted he is back.

"I always had 100 per cent faith in Edward to do a job for us in this league. He gives us something extra, especially at home."

Ulrich Oostergaard is joining Premier League team the Isle of Wight but will continue to double up with Eagles together with recent signing Andrew Moore.

Said Cook: "Ulrich has immense potential, but he desperately needs experience."

Eastbourne are stepping up their efforts to sign another Danish rider, Steen Jensen. Eagles are away to Swindon tonight.
