A bou of three died under the wheels of a car at Gatwick airport's North Terminal car park at the weekend.

The accident happened at 8.25am on Saturday as Rhys Hood's family unloaded holiday luggage for his grandparents who were catching a flight from the terminal.

Rhys, from Brecon, in Wales, was taken to the East Surrey Hospital in Redhill where he died from his injuries.

A Sussex Police investigation was continuing today and police repeated their appeal for anyone in the car park between 8.20am and 8.30am on Saturday who saw anything to come forward.

Witnesses told police the boy appeared to be very excited and dashed towards the car park lifts before the adults could react.

He was struck by a silver Ford Mondeo which had just turned a corner. The youngster went under the front of the car, suffering head injuries.

The boy's distraught relatives and the shocked car driver raised the alarm. Paramedics were unable to revive the boy.

He was taken to hospital but found to be dead. His family and the male driver were treated for shock.

Inspector Ivor Fabb said: "The boy's father was dropping his grandparents off so they could go on holiday.

"The boy broke away from them and went under the wheels of the car."
