Hundreds of Brighton and Hove Albion supporters pleaded with John Prescott to give them a new stadium at Falmer.

They staged protests at opposite ends of England, calling on the Deputy Prime Minister to listen to their pleas.

On Saturday, supporters set up a stand on the site of the proposed new stadium to listen to the weekend away game against Grimsby.

The group of more than 40 fans switched on their radios to listen to Albion lose 2-1.

During half-time, Albion director Derek Chapman turned out to serve them soup.

Roz South, an Albion supporter from Firle, said: "There's no doubt about it, without Falmer we have no future. This campaign has so much impetus it's carrying us forward and we're putting all our energies into that."

Meanwhile, more than 100 Seagulls' fans took a Valentine's Day message to Mr Prescott's home constituency.

They descended on the East Hull MP's constituency office to ask him to give the go-ahead for the stadium.

The project has been the subject of a public inquiry, with Mr Prescott having the final say on its outcome.

The fans delivered a huge Valentine card to Mr Prescott's agent, Harry Woodford.

Under the heading Be Our Valentine Mr Prescott, was the poem: "Roses are red, Brighton are blue, our club's future is all down to you.

"Please say YES to our new stadium."

The visit was planned to coincide with the Grimsby clash.
