What a strange letter from Charles Wunderman ("Don't turn this city into a high-rise hell", Letters, December 29).
He has abandoned his native New York because of skyscrapers and is considering moving to Brighton and Hove, which already has a smattering of high-rise, and complains that we are considering more.
He would, of course, make a good bedfellow for the minority hicksville parochials who attach themselves to every group and society going and would appear to prefer living in Trollope's Barchester rather than a thriving, cosmopolitan city.
Like it or not, we are in the 21st Century and for any town or city to survive it must continually evolve. Keep the best of the past but build for the future.
That is why my generation looks forward to a new football stadium and ice rink. We welcome Frank Gehry to our city as his breath of inspiration is needed.
Otherwise we will become the next Mablethorpe, Margate or Morecambe.
