A Mid Sussex road was closed for almost three hours today after a crash which left a car jammed under a lorry.

Three fire crews were called to the accident on the B2112 at Haywards Heath, near the Fox and Hounds pub.

Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment and a heavy duty airbag to free the 65-year-old woman driver from the wreckage of the Peugeot.

She was taken to the Princess Royal Hopsital in Haywards Heath with serious injuries.

Paramedics made a call to the hospital to ready its trauma team for her arrival.

The road was closed in both directions from 10am until around 12.40pm while the wreckage was cleared from the scene.

In another crash today, a motorcyclist received severe leg injuries after a collision with a car on the C7 road between Lewes and Newhaven at Piddinghoe.

The road was closed at the height of the morning rush hour.
