Two more Post Offices in East Sussex are to close in another round of cost-cutting, despite fierce resistance from users.

The post office in New Town, Uckfield, will shut on January 10 and Hawkswood, Hailsham, will close on January 12.

The decision follows months of campaigning by customers amid fears that closures would cause major access problems.

Also under threat are the Jarvis Brook and White Hill counters in Crowborough but a final decision has not been made.

The closures provoked anger today from Wealden's Conservative MP Charles Hendry, who accused the Post Office of ignoring public opposition.

He said: "This announcement only confirms our fears that the decision had already been made before the consultation process started and that no amount of campaigning would ever have been able to change that.

"In short, the views of Wealden's residents have been ignored."
