East Grinstead remain right on the tail of leaders Old Georgians after suffering a scare at home to Formby before coming through to win 4-3.

The home side appeared to be coasting when they went in 3-1 ahead at the interval but a change of tactics from the visitors saw them score twice within five minutes and give Grinstead a real scare.

Player coach Kwan Browne said: "We were easily in control in the first half but they began to play high balls over the heads of our defence in the second half and we were caught out twice.

"No other team has used that tactic against us this season and it took us a while to work out what was going on before we adapted and put things right."

Duncan Howarth had given the home side a dream start when he opened the scoring after just three minutes and although Andrew Kent equalised in the 15th minute, further strikes from Mark Ansell and a wonder goal from Dwain Quan Chan gave them a comfortable 3-1 lead at the break.

David Seddon twice profited from Formby's change of tactics to get them back on level terms, but after the home side cut out the threat by defending deeper there was only going to be one winner.

Browne himself struck the decisive goal in the 55th minute to ensure East Grinstead are just a point behind Old Georgians, who beat Barford Tigers 8-1, as they approach the half way point of the season this weekend.

"We don't mind staying in second place at the moment because we know we got to play Old Georgians at home after Christmas," said Browne.
