London Underground workers have voted in favour of industrial action in a row over safety, threatening travel chaos for millions of people in the run-up to Christmas.

Members of the Rail Maritime and Transport Union voted by 55 per cent in favour of strikes and by 81 per cent for industrial action short of strikes.

Union leaders will meet over the next few days to plan a campaign of industrial action which is likely to start at the end of the month with a go-slow by drivers.

Union members will be told to drive trains at just 10 or 15mph instead of the normal 40-45mph over lines where they have safety concerns.
