Albion goalkeeper Michel Kuipers could be on his way to Hull, providing the clubs can agree a fee.

Former Seagulls chief Peter Taylor has spoken to manager Mark McGhee about signing the Dutch shot-stopper.

McGhee may be prepared to let Kuipers go, but only if the deal gives him scope to strengthen the squad.

Kuipers was replaced between the posts by Ben Roberts for Saturday's 4-1 home defeat by Bristol City, Albion's heaviest ever at Withdean.

Kuipers had a loan spell with Taylor's Hull earlier in the season after McGhee's predecessor Steve Coppell picked Roberts as his No. 1.

Taylor revealed: "I have spoken to Mark about Michel and I am interested, but it depends what they are looking for. If they ask me for a big fee then they have got no chance."

McGhee said: "If anyone comes in for certain players then I would have to consider it. I have got to find ways of wheeling and dealing, but I would only do something if it allowed me to strengthen."

Roberts was not at fault for Bristol's comprehensive victory and he is being given the chance to establish himself as first choice.

"At the moment I have put Ben in and I won't be swapping again next week," McGhee said.

Albion gave a debut on Saturday to 18-year-old midfielder Mark Yeates, signed on a month's loan from Spurs.

More changes are in store following a fourth League defeat out of five, which has dropped the Seagulls to seventh.

McGhee symapthised with fans in the south stand who urged him to 'sort it out.' He said: "I wish I could have spoken to them so I could have told them. This is my opportunity and I'm telling them I'm on the case.

"Don't think for a minute that either I think our performance was acceptable or that I think the answer lies within the squad.

"Part of the answer lies with the players that are here already getting better and back up to tempo. The other part is new faces coming in who are going to improve the quality."

Bristol boss Danny Wilson is backing McGhee to put things right.

The former Albion captain said: "A change of manager is an unsettling period but I am sure with the experience Mark has he will do well here.

"They have not been made one of the favourites to go up for nothing. Just give people time and they will work things out, no problem."
