As a successful and expanding business in Shoreham, we have recently been looking to purchase warehouse property to house our successful Pasante condom business as we have now outgrown the 22,000 square feet we share with the Paladone gift division.
It appears the warehouse units that could house us locally (Old Post Office Building in Shoreham and Bookers in Portslade) are all being sold to developers with domestic planning for massive profits, leaving businesses with fewer and fewer options.
Renting is not an option as landlords ask huge rents, which they can do because of the shortage of warehousing.
We are now having to consider relocation out of the county which would be a pity for the local job market.
I am sure we are not alone in experiencing this. Planners appear to be jumping through hoops for developers but in the long term it is jobs and local industry that suffer.
