A second nurse involved in an horrific crash in Hove has lost her month-long fight for life.

Victoria Browne, who lost both legs in the collision, died last night in the intensive care unit of St George's Hospital, London.

Miss Browne, 19, from Brighton, was a passenger in a Ford Mondeo which crashed in Portland Road on October 12. Another passenger, Flo McCabe, 21, from Shoreham, died at the scene.

A third, Rebecca Fish, from Hove, lost one leg and suffered a shoulder injury. She is at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

The three friends, all nursery nurses, were on their way home from a night out when the crash happened at 11pm.

Miss Browne's family and friends had been praying for her recovery and hospital staff dedicated weeks of effort to save her.

All were said to be devastated.

Inspector Simon Labett, head of the road policing unit at Hove, said: "It is very sad news and our thoughts are with Vickie's relatives and friends."

A 21-year-old barman has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
