Albion's non-effort in the FA Cup at Lincoln was a blessing in disguise, exposing serious deficiencies in a stale-looking squad.
Mayo, Jones and Carpenter appear to have drifted into a comfort zone while Butters, Pethick and Piercy are simply not good enough.
It is clear to everyone that many of the most committed and impressive performances have come from Albion youth team products, such as the much-improved Chris McPhee.
Other young players, notably Dan Harding and the awesome Jake Robinson, are great to watch and bursting to play for their local club.
They deserve a chance now.
