Albion's "embarrassed" manager Mark McGhee will make the players work overtime in training this week after another FA Cup nightmare.

Saturday's 3-1 exit at Third Division Lincoln was the fifth defeat suffered by the Seagulls against lower league opposition in the last ten seasons.

McGhee, beaten for the first time since taking charge, said: "As a player and as a manager I have never enjoyed losing to a team from a lower division.

"I am embarrassed by that and I hope the players are, because I know the supporters will be disappointed and to a degree embarrassed as well.

"No disrespect to Lincoln, but we should be able to go to somewhere like that and win.

"I told the players to go away on Sunday and have a good rest because there is a lot of hard work coming.

"We will be on the training ground today, Tuesday and Wednesday, including some afternoons at times.

"To lose any game, particularly in the FA Cup, is disappointing, but more disappointing for me was the performance.

"We knew what to expect from Lincoln. They play in a certain way. We were going to have to be prepared to match that and I don't think we did.

"We did not impose our own game. We play with wingers and the service to them until late in the game was almost non-existent."

Albion's demise was launched by a controversial early penalty, awarded by ref Nigel Miller for a push by Guy Butters on Ben Futcher from a corner.

McGhee refused to use it as an excuse. "I couldn't care less why the penalty was given," he said.

"There were a lot of very poor decisions, but they didn't result in us losing the game."

Gary Hart will be hit in the pocket after a booking in the second half for kicking the ball away.

Hart's fifth yellow card of the season means he is suspended for the trip to Notts County on Saturday week.

McGhee revealed: "Gary was foolish. It was unnecessary so he will be fined."
