Mrs JM Gobey criticises residents of Southwick and Shoreham for using Brighton as their address, saying that they should use West Sussex instead (Letters, November 3).
That's okay as far as it goes but the proper county name we should all be using is Sussex.
East and West Sussex are no more than artificial creations of the 1974 reorganisation of local government.
I am a native of the historic kingdom of the South Saxons and Sussex is where I live, not East or West.
