Well done, Trevor Pateman (Letters, November 1). Encapsulated in his letter are the reasons why a restoration of our beloved West Pier is, nowadays, a non-starter.

No one who spent their childhood in the Regency Square area when the "West Pier was the best pier" would ever have been motivated to oppose it rising again like a phoenix.

Now, sadly, we are left with a scrapyard and the word "restoration" is thus a misnomer.

It would be a mere reconstruction and one that would have the authenticity of a castle in a Disney magic kingdom.

Any future money raised in the name of the West Pier should go on giving it a decent burial so those who have loved and lost can properly grieve for its passing.
